Senior Director of Public Relations

As a full-time senior director, you will use your advanced knowledge of public relations, internal communications, crisis communications, executive writing, and social media to form an integrated marketing strategy for university promotion. You will liaise with directors and associate directors of public relations at all SCAD locations to ensure comprehensive and consistent messaging and strategies; lead PR and marketing strategies for SCAD initiatives, signature events, degree programs, and student and alumni success stories; and nurture strong media relationships with editors and writers in business, entertainment, technology, and design in pursuit of positive, ongoing coverage for both SCAD and its leadership.

You will work closely with various internal departments to curate and communicate news, stories, and information to the media that elevate the university's image; research and develop relevant programming strategies to bring industry and creative leaders to SCAD locations to interact with students and alumni; and work with physical resources to prepare facilities with accommodations for all interviews, photography, and videography. You will create media prep documents with talking points and collateral for all interviews and/or events that are press-related (e.g., signature events, key messaging, Q&As, press bios, etc.) and manage unexpected PR situations or crises as they arise. Among other duties and as appropriate, you will also serve as a SCAD spokesperson and work with other identified spokespeople to ensure proper training to handle public relations, including briefs on particular situations as they arise.

The successful candidate has spectacular interpersonal communication skills, as well as a thorough understanding of production languages (e.g., print, social media, Web, photo, and video). Elevated writing abilities are essential for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of public relations experience, including the management and coordination of PR teams
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience in marketing, social media, and project management


Work Hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
