SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Computer Science at Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor with broad teaching capacity that supports all levels of the undergraduate degree program and at the graduate level as well. The Computer Science department is home to the largest undergraduate program in the University which delivers an ABET accredited degree in Computer Science with specialization areas in Game Development, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, and Autonomous Systems. Successful applicants must be capable of teaching a range of classes in the curriculum, at all levels, and must contribute to instruction and research focused in at least one of the following areas: Cyber Security, Machine Learning and Autonomous Systems, Graphical Interactive Programs and Software Engineering.

This is part of a strategic expansion of the department that will add multiple faculty members with starting dates of either January or August 2023. The department also delivers a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and the expansion of the faculty will be critical to growing the size of this graduate program.

Applicants must demonstrate commitment to teaching and teaching excellence in support of the department’s degree program. In addition, Individuals must be prepared to establish a personal research presence based upon participation in extramural funding efforts, publication of research results in leading scientific journals of their discipline, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to assist in the broader educational mission of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
  • Assistant Professor- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (degree must be acquired by the starting date for the position).
  • Associate Professor or Professor- Six years of experience as faculty member or equivalent industry experience and participation as a student or faculty in a US higher education institution.

DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Teaching and/or relevant research/industry experience.
  • Experience in curriculum delivery and development.
  • Experience as the instructor of record.
  • Experience with students’ academic mentoring.
  • Participation as a student or faculty in a US higher education institution. (Assistant Professor)
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary funded applied research.
  • Experience as contributing author or sole author on research proposals.
  • Active participation in professional activities and organizations.
  • Prior professional US experience with progressive increases in responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse campus community.
  • Experience in curriculum deliver and development (Associate Professor or Professor)
  • Experience with students’ academic mentoring (Associate Professor or Professor)

DESIRED / PREFERRED AREAS OF Teaching and Research Expertise:
  • Game Development and Simulation (Computer Graphics, Game Design, etc.).
  • Information Assurance & Cyber Security (Applied Cryptograph, Ethical Hacking, etc.).
  • Intelligent Mobility and Autonomous Systems (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Autonomous/Smart Systems, etc.).
  • Software Engineering (Software Verification and Quality Assurance, Software Design and Architecture, etc.).
