As a costume design sewing technician, you will use your exceptional design skills to instruct and support sophomore to graduate-level students in costume design for SCAD stage, film, and television productions, including fabric preparation, pattern layout and marketing, garment assembly and pressing, industrial and hand sewing, and fine-finishing techniques. You will emphasize quality in construction and finishing; sew assigned costumes by hand or machine; and assist with fitting, stitching, wigs, masks, and other accessories. Among other duties, you will also operate industrial sewing machines and sergers/overlocks.
The successful candidate demonstrates advanced knowledge of various fabrics and textiles and is proficient in garment construction, draping, pattern making, dyeing, and distressing. The ability to work with a group at various experience levels while exhibiting patience, professionalism, and flexibility is essential. The candidate should have a willingness to learn new information and is an expert multi-tasker. Strong problem-solving skills are also a must.
Minimum Qualifications:
Work Hours:The university work week is Sunday-Saturday. Most offices are open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.

- Bachelor's degree in costume design, production design, or a related discipline
- One to three years of related professional experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency with machine and hand sewing techniques, as well as commercial and industrial sewing machine operation
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
