Job Description Summary
The Simmons and Parry laboratories in the Center for Research in Reproduction and Women's Health are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic individual that is excited about doing research focused on pregnancy complications and fetal development in cell culture and animal models as well as human samples. Our research focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms of pregnancy complications and their adverse effects on fetal development and out comes, with the ultimate goal to develop prevention strategies. The specialist will conduct and troubleshoot experiments and assist with routine laboratory duties and equipment maintenance.
Job Description
The Research Specialist will be closely working with Dr. Lien, Dr. Golden, and other lab members of the Simmons and Parry laboratories on the publication-generating projects. The Research Specialist will work on projects related to pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and preterm birth, and fetal development. The work will involve the use of human samples, animal models, cell culture, cellular and molecular biology, as well as omics techniques. It is expected that the Research Specialist will develop a high level of independence with minimal supervision. The Research Specialist will work in an environment that is team oriented, where creativity, enthusiasm and dedicated effort are highly rewarded.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of experience in laboratory bench work or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience with cell culture, molecular and cellular biology is preferred. Experience in working with rodents, blood collection, and tissue harvest is required. Must be comfortable handling rodents. Should be organized, detail-oriented, able to
maintain organized laboratory data, work well with others, and is a team player.

The primary role of the Research Specialist A will be:
- Cell culture including established cell lines and primary cells
- Basic biology and molecular biology techniques including extra cellular vehicle isolation, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence and other assays under the supervision of senior scientists in the lab
- Assist with managing of rodent colony, care for rodents, genotyping, blood collection, and tissue harvest
- Coordinate clinical sample procurement, processing and shipment
- Attend the lab meetings
- Analyze and organize data, present data to the lab and to collaborators
- Experience with Microsoft office
- Must be able to perform basic math functions
- Be responsible for general laboratory duties
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Occasionally may have to work on weekends and evenings as project needs require, flexibility with hours is required; multi-tasking is important.
