Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Interpretative Programs, the School Visit Manager develops and delivers K12 gallery tours and workshops for students onsite and online. This role focuses on the K12 schools and homeschool students not served by the grant-funded Unpacking the Past program aimed at middle school students. Under the guidance of the Associate Director, develops learning programs that are curriculum-based and inclusive using strategies such as anti-racist and universal design for learning methods. This role manages the school visit experience assigning staff to complete tours and workshops, running weekly scheduling meetings, coordinating grants funds to sponsor Title 1 schools, and communicating with museum facilities and security about onsite programs for visiting groups. Working in collaboration with the Assistant Director, Virtual Programs, serves as co-creator of Virtual Passport Days and At-Home Anthropology LIVE that serves K-2 students in schools and homeschool learning environments, and as a moderator for virtual programs. This role also tracks and reports on volunteer hours for Penn Museum, coordinating activities with different departments hosting volunteers and providing enrichment and recognition events for them. The School Visit Manager develops teacher resources and supports professional development opportunities for educators, coordinating these efforts with the Global Education Manager, and Associate Director of Unpacking the Past when appropriate. This role supervises the School Visit Coordinator in scheduling and booking K-12 groups, providing general administrative support for Learning Programs, and tracking and reporting attendance, revenue, and dashboard reports.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: (1) working under the direction of the Associate Director of Interpretative Programs, developing gallery tours and workshops aimed at K12 students; (2) supervising the School Visit Coordinator in scheduling and booking groups for the Museum's K-12 in-person and virtual educational programs and coordinating the tracking and reporting on department metrics and revenue reports;(3) developing teacher resources to support onsite tour and workshop programs; (4) internal and external communications on behalf of the department with K-12 groups, assigning staff to tour programs, running weekly check-in meetings, and coordinating with facilities and security; (5) planning, marketing, and designing specialty programs including Home school Days, Virtual Passport Days, and At-Home Anthropology LIVE; (6) reporting on volunteer hours for all departments that host them and creating volunteer enrichment programs including annual recognition event (7) collaborating with Global Education Manager, and Associate Director of Unpacking the Past in providing teacher professional development (8) other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the School Visit Manager should have a BA/BS in education, museum education, museum studies, history, archeology, anthropology or related field or three to five years of teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Blackbaud's Altru system and MailChimp are useful.

Applicants must have teaching experience with K12 -aged students, a background in museum teaching is helpful. They must be committed to working with diverse audiences and students with special needs. Be organized, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are necessary, as the Manager regularly interfaces with the public and Museum staff/faculty. Also crucial to this role are the abilities to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Finally, demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, Outlook are necessary. Some evening and weekend work may occasionally be required. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
