The Research Institute at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is seeking an outstanding Scientist who is committed to developing and applying advanced cell biology imaging approaches to address fundamental questions relevant to understanding cell biological pathways and how they are disrupted in pediatric disease. The successful applicant will fill a permanent Scientist faculty position at SickKids, with academic cross-appointment to a relevant department at The University of Toronto . The SickKids Research Institute is Canada’s largest hospital-based child health research institute. Our commitment is to improve the health of children, here in Canada and the global community.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D or equivalent in a relevant discipline, as well as significant research experience (i.e., at least 3 years postdoctoral) and a record of outstanding scientific accomplishment and technical innovation in cell biology and imaging science. Applicants are expected to demonstrate evidence of successful research funding (peer-reviewed grants, fellowships, etc.), publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, and increasing leadership experience in research. Applicants should have a strong track record of productivity and innovation in cell biology imaging methods development and application, as well as an established record of collaboration and interdisciplinary research. Researchers with expertise in developing cutting-edge imaging technologies, including developing novel algorithms and machine learning models and frameworks to analyze and integrate imaging data, are encouraged to apply. Applicants whose research focuses on 3-D analysis of light or electron microscopy imaging relevant to the study of cellular pathways are particularly welcomed.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Scientist in the Cell Biology Program in the SickKids Research Institute, and will be expected to qualify for an academic cross-appointment as an Assistant Professor in an appropriate department at the University of Toronto. This will require the successful candidate to: (a) Directly supervise students, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates; and (b) Work with trainees to prepare scientific manuscripts, grant applications, drafts of patent applications, etc. They will engage in an original, competitive, and independently funded research program of international caliber that will investigate questions related to the structure and function of cells, tissue, or organs in the context of child health and disease by developing and applying advanced computational and AI methods relevant to different imaging modalities. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is being offered along with support for relocation expenses. The successful applicant’s research program will be housed at the SickKids Research Institute in the state-of-the-art Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning (686 Bay Street, Toronto, Canada), located in the Discovery District in the heart of downtown Toronto. SickKids is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto – Canada’s largest and top-ranked university, and our researchers benefit from the extensive research facilities at the University of Toronto and other affiliated institutions.
