Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of transfusion medicine. Pediatric experience is preferred but not required. The position will be based within the Division of Transfusion Medicine. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Board Certification or Eligibility in Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine.

Teaching responsibilities may include quality improvement, regulatory oversight, teaching rotating residents and fellows, and supporting medical school education.

Clinical responsibilities may include Blood Bank and Apheresis physician coverage. The Blood Bank supports a broad spectrum of quaternary pediatric care including a surgery program with active cardiothoracic and fetal services, pediatric oncology, bone marrow, and solid organ transplantation, large PICUs and NICUs, ECMO services, a pediatric emergency room, and Level 1 Trauma Center, and a large chronic transfusion program for patients with hemoglobinopathies. The service does not currently include a blood donor center or a reference serology laboratory. The successful candidate will provide clinical service in the Apheresis Unit joining a team of four physicians for coverage and call performing procedures for a diverse population of patients including a comprehensive sickle cell center and novel cell and gene therapy trial participants. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to assume a leadership role for the Apheresis service commensurate with experience.
