Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Educational Technology and Learning Management (ETLM) the Senior Courseware Support Specialist will provide end-user support for the University's Learning Management System (Canvas), and other library-based educational technology services, as well as collaborate with colleagues on special projects related to digital initiatives. In addition to managing our Canvas at Penn website for end-user documentation, this position will oversee our internal documentation and training efforts for support partners and manage the Courseware Support Specialist (1FTE). This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with a work week divided between working onsite and working remotely.

Job Description

Duties:
  • Leads the Courseware Documentation Editorial Board (CDEB) and manages the Canvas at Penn site our documentation and communication hub for Penn students, staff, and faculty.
  • Manages the Courseware Support Specialist (1 FTE) and manages the department in the absence of the Associate Director,
  • Acts as a source of institutional knowledge for the unit, acts as a subject matter expert on campus-wide committees.
  • Supports Canvas by answering user tickets through our Freshdesk ticketing system. Documents bugs and escalates tickets to Instructure and other vendors as needed.
  • Onboards and trains new hires in the unit and among our support partners on Canvas support and administration. Creates and maintains an internal knowledge base for the department.
  • Participates in activities and special projects that relate to the intersection of educational technology and digital initiatives
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Masters' degree in library/information science, instructional design, educational technology or related field strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in educational technology, instructional design, or a related field required.
  • Experience supporting and administering Learning Management Systems (especially Canvas) required.
  • Demonstrated experience creating documentation for different audiences, managing a web presence, and utilizing content management systems (especially Wordpress) required.
  • The ability to work both independently and collegially, and to collaborate effectively.
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to proactive, courteous service.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and group presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
