Assistant/Associate Professor Position of Clinical Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (Academic Clinician track)

The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet), Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine (CSAM) invites applications for a clinical faculty position in Small Animal Critical Care and Emergency Medicine in the Academic Clinician (AC) track.
The successful candidate will be responsible for didactic, laboratory and clinical teaching of veterinary medical students and interns, participation in patient care, supervision of residents, and continuing education for veterinarians and related stakeholders. The majority of responsibilities within the hospital will occur in the emergency room with the balance of time spent in other critical care areas, including the intensive care unit. Forty-two (42) weeks will be devoted to clinical service, with the remaining portion dedicated to activities such as teaching, citizenship work, and professional development.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in administrative or committee work and to advance the mission of Penn Vet along with the School's Development, Communications, Customer Service and Community Outreach programs. The successful candidate should demonstrate a collaborative style that fosters and supports teamwork and innovation.
The successful candidate will enjoy a wealth of opportunities in a highly collaborative and intellectual academic teaching hospital that provides state-of-the-art patient care. The Section of Emergency and Critical Care employs 8 DACVECC-boarded faculty along with more than 30 Diplomates of various American and European specialty colleges that are in direct support of the program. There are currently 10 residents enrolled in the ECC residency-training program and 1 ECC and cardiology research intern. The medical team includes a highly trained and experienced professional nursing staff. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centered clinical service in a robust academic teaching hospital. The successful candidate can also participate in collaborative clinical research that advances the One Health initiative.
The Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital is a specialty-centered and fully-equipped academic teaching facility. The Emergency Service is a VECCS-Certified Level 1 Facility and a VetCOT-Certified Level 1 Veterinary Trauma Center. Penn Vet's large and diverse faculty and staff, assembled from all over the world, service one of the largest caseloads in the country. Penn's various medical schools are within walking distance of the Penn Vet campus and provide opportunity for rich intellectual exchange.
