The Sr. Wireless Network Engineer provides a leading role regarding the planning, designing, and implementation of Penn's wireless services. Maintains monitoring tools and creates reports to track key metrics for wireless services. Meets with schools and centers to review needs and make recommendations for wireless coverage or custom authentication and access solutions. May at times lead short-term and long-term wireless and other network service projects. Takes a leading role working with other network engineers in complex problem resolution and configuration management related to RF environment, equipment hardware or operating systems, or networking infrastructure. Participates in the evaluating and acceptance testing of new wireless controllers, access points, monitoring and authentication systems. Provides cross training to other staff. Provides support to other Network Engineers for escalated problems. Will be required to provide off-hours support in a weekly on-call rotation.

Job Description

Works under general direction in ISC Technology Services Wireless Infrastructure and Network Engineering (WINE). Takes a leading role in short and long-term networking projects related to the planning, designing, and implementation of Penn's wireless services. Meets with schools and centers to review needs and make recommendations for wireless coverage or custom authentication and access solutions. Responsible for performing RF surveys of indoor and outdoor spaces on Penn's main campus and remote locations. Responsible for performing configuration management of all wireless controllers, access point configurations, monitoring and authentication systems. Works with other WINE Engineers in analyzing and base lining network performance. Maintains monitoring tools and creates reports to track key metrics for wireless services. Schedules network maintenance windows with local IT Support contacts and communicates the maintenance windows to the campus community. Resolves complex networking problems involving RF environment, equipment hardware or operating systems, or networking infrastructure. Provides third-tier network support to other WINE Engineers for escalated problems. Will, at times, take over troubleshooting network problems that are already in progress from other WINE Engineers or from On-Call personnel. Provides cross training of WINE Engineers in configuration and diagnostic methodology. Will be required to participate in a weekly on-call rotation to provide third-tier support.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A minimum of 5 years of experience troubleshooting problems & maintaining wireless controllers, access points, monitoring and authentication systems. Experience and solid knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, SNMP, OSPF and BGP required. Expert knowledge of wireless network, association, and authentication methods.
Experience with Aruba Networks required. Experience with onboarding tools and authentication systems, SecureW2 JoinNow and Clear Pass Policy Manager (CPPM) is a plus. Experience with wireless survey tools, e.g. AirCheck, Ekahau preferred. Strong verbal & written communications skills; solid leadership & team skills & ability to work under minimal supervision within context of their job responsibilities required. Wireless networking certifications preferred. Knowledge of network automation experience using Ansible preferred. Scripting language experience preferred.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
