Vice President, Research and Innovation

UNBC is a university both in and for the North. This mission has instilled a strong sense of ownership, purpose, and adventure among its students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the communities it serves. UNBC is also Canada’s Green University™, leading the way to a more sustainable future for all. Located in the spectacular landscape of northern British Columbia, UNBC is one of Canada’s best small universities, with a passion for teaching, discovery, people, the environment, and the North.

UNBC provides outstanding undergraduate and graduate learning opportunities that explore cultures, health, economies, sciences, and the environment. As one of B.C.’s leading research-intensive universities, UNBC brings the excitement of new knowledge to its students, and the outcomes of its teaching and research to the world. Home to 3,500 students, UNBC has been annually recognized as one of Canada’s top three primarily undergraduate universities and appears as one of only four BC-based Universities in Research Infosource’s Top 50 Research Universities annual rankings. UNBC’s motto, from the Dakelh (Carrier) Elders, is used to remind us that all people have a voice and a viewpoint. Directly translated as "that person also lives," and interpreted as "respecting all forms of life," ‘En Cha Huná encapsulates the spirit of academic freedom, respect for others, and willingness to recognize different perspectives.

Reporting to the President, the VP Research & Innovation promotes and enhances the success of research by faculty, students, and partners of UNBC by taking a strategic approach to the University’s research priorities, and by providing faculty members with the support they need to develop outstanding research programs in all disciplines. In addition, the Vice President assists with the development of research partnerships with local, provincial, national, and international agencies and industry collaborators, supports technology transfer and commercialization of research discoveries, and enhances relationships with major research funding agencies.

As the ideal candidate, you will have an exceptional record of scholarship and a demonstrated track record of success in academic leadership. With a passion for research, broad scholarly interests, and outstanding skills at facilitating and supporting research, the new VP will have the energy and skills to build relationships on and off campus to advance UNBC’s agenda. Through strong people skills, an inclusive approach and respect for diversity, inclusion and reconciliation, you are a proven relationship- and community-builder with the vision and strategic skills necessary to advance UNBC’s mission, nationally and internationally.
