As part of Penn's HR team, this role with report to the Executive Director of Compensation. The Compensation Specialist researches, analyzes and reports on data to provide recommendations for compensation-related issues, conducts job evaluations and salary reviews by analyzing and evaluating jobs and recommending appropriate job title and salary. They will provide advice/guidance to management regarding individual, department or school/center-wide compensation and salary administration issues. The Compensation Specialist supports the Human Resources Compensation function in the administration of the annual pay increase program, analysis of compliance issues, and compensation projects. They will assist in analyzing wage and salary data and preparing reports for senior management.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Conducts job evaluations to establish the appropriate classification based on University's compensation system
  • Reviews staff positions and salaries based on market data and internal equity.
  • Makes appropriate job title and salary recommendations to clients, management and HR partners.
  • Writes or edits job descriptions as required.
  • Provides advice/guidance to management and HR administrators regarding individual, department or school/center-wide salary management tools, techniques and practices.
  • Advises departments on compliance issues such as FLSA, pay equity and legally defensible pay practices.
  • Completes salary surveys and assures submission of accurate data on a timely basis.
  • Participates in the annual merit increase program; development and implementation of communications, guidelines, training, reports and analyses.
  • Provides research and analysis for annual Compensation reports and various compensation team projects.
  • Works with Talent Acquisition to recommend appropriate salary offers that support recruitment and retention.
  • Interprets compensation policies; monitors pay practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Assists with special projects to support new initiatives and compensation administration.
  • Works with Staff and Labor Relations as needed.
  • Other additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resources compensation or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent quantitative and analytic skills. Demonstrated customer service and negotiation skills; familiarity with compensation laws and regulations; knowledge of the University's systems and policies preferred; strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel. Experience with Workday is a plus. CCP, PHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Targeted Pay Range:

$65K -- $75K commensurate with education and experience
