Job Description Summary
The Senior Director of Wharton Facilities and Operations is responsible for capital projects and planning, space planning, scheduling, facilities repair and maintenance as well as security and housekeeping for the Wharton complex including its seven academic buildings on Penn's campus and the Penn Wharton Venture lab. The Senior Director is also responsible for managing significant leased assets in Philadelphia with additional major leased facilities in San Francisco and Beijing, China. Tasked with leading a team of direct and indirect reports plus third party vendors and and their employees, this role manages complex and varied relationships and partnerships. The role is also responsible for multiple budgets, including an ~ $8 million dollar Operations & Maintenance budget, as well as a Capital budget, which can vary greatly dependent upon the school and university's strategic plans.

The Senior Director leads our Facilities manager, overseeing building managers, housekeeping and security personnel to ensure the facilities are secured and maintained in excellent condition. The Operations team, under the leadership of the Senior Director, is also responsible for Mail, Customer Service and maintaining the central phone line for the school.

The Senior Director leads a Scheduling and Events team that collaborates with the Senior Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning and the CFO/COO to ensure that the school's scheduling for academic and special events are prioritized appropriately, as well as managed efficiently and effectively.

In collaboration with key stakeholders at the school and university, the Senior Director works to negotiate contracts with vendors for Wharton's cafes, large catering contracts with vendors in San Francisco and Beijing, as well as the operator for the Steinberg Conference Center and other similar initiatives.

The Senior director is responsible for capital and space planning at Wharton, including navigating successful collaborations with and for various stakeholder groups. This role will work in collaboration with the school's senior leadership in setting the strategic vision for and execution of space creation, reinvention and utilization at Wharton.

Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 7-10 years of management, business and/or academic experience preferred.
  • Experience leading facilities, maintenance and capital projects required.
  • Demonstrated project management and organization skills with the ability to think high-level and execute on the details. Proven ability to exercise good judgment, take initiative, and make independent decisions. Strong planning and organizational capabilities along with problem solving skills are required.
  • Strong management & leadership skills required. Experience in building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, leading teams, and developing organization-wide strategies.
  • Ability to work with and communicate effectively at all levels within the organization from senior management to technicians.
  • Ability to move multiple projects forward at the same time while remaining on point with the school's mission
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve issues/emergencies.
  • Available during non-traditional work hours including evenings/nights and weekends. Willing to travel.

    Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
