Located on the beautiful and vibrant campus of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Vet's Ryan Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia provides care for dogs, cats, and other domestic/companion animals, handling more than 30,000 patient visits a year, some 9,000 of which are emergency cases. Ryan Hospital is a Level One Trauma Facility certified by Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECSS).

Job Description

As a valued member of Penn Vet's Ryan Hospital, you will work in a supportive environment where you will have professional growth opportunities. If you are a skilled Veterinary Nurse who is passionate about caring for animals, interested in further developing your skills and working with an elite team of clinicians then Penn Vet is the place for you.

We are seeking a Veterinary Nurse to work in the Intensive Care Unit. The individual in this position will provide critical care nursing support to ICU patients during weekend overnight shifts.

The Veterinary Nurse will be responsible for and must have working knowledge of constant rate infusions/calculations, pain management, oxygen therapy, sampling lines, TPN administration, arterial blood gases, CPR, EKG/BP monitoring, electrolyte interpretation, blood transfusions and urinary catheter placement.

Qualifications

Must be a CVT or board eligible. Must sit of boards within 3 months of hire. VTS is preferred but not required.

Must also have strong organizational skills,, strong patient assessment skills, a calm demeanor during emergencies and strong interpersonal skills.

Veterinary Technician B, Intensive Care Unit: Must have 2+ years of experience in critical care and be certified

Veterinary Technician C, Intensive Care Unit: Must have 3+ years of experience in critical care and be certified

Veterinary Technician D, Intensive Care Unit: Must have 5+ years of experience in critical care and be certified

We are hiring at all levels for this position. $20.00/hour is the minimum starting salary for an entry-level position. Minimum starting salaries increase with each level. Relevant education, experience, skills, and licenses/ certifications are among the factors considered in salary offers.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday

Physical requirement: Ability to lift >25 pounds with assistance, kneeling and bending 75% of the time as patients are in lower cages.
