Professor of English

Professor of English Location: Savannah Position Number F01437 Position Type: Full Time Position Title Professor of English Specialty: Liberal Arts Category: Work Year: Academic Year

SCAD Savannah seeks a full-time professor of English to shape and energize the discourse, storytelling, and critical thinking of undergraduate students across creative disciplines.

From dramatic writing and fashion to film, user experience, and beyond, English plays an integral role in the general education portfolio of more than 100 degree programs at SCAD. The department of liberal arts is home to more than 15 academic disciplines, including anthropology, astronomy, biology, communication, English, foreign languages, mathematics, philosophy, physics, political science, and psychology. As a professor of English, you will join a community of more than 60 full-time faculty teaching in one of the most academically diverse general education programs at any art and design university. You will embolden students to generate, investigate, and advance ideas that will carry them to success in their majors where they will write scripts, build brand identities, define new markets, engineer environments and experiences, and usher in the next generation of creative concepts and innovative design solutions.

As a professor, you will also teach an essential component of SCAD Core — ENGL 123 Ink to Ideas: Critical Concepts in Literature and Writing. This fundamental class invites students to explore literary and cultural concepts and themes expressed in a range of written, visual, and oral communication, to investigate rhetorical and literary devices, and to develop comprehensive research skills.

The successful candidate delights in teaching introductory-level courses that prepare students for success in their majors. A specialty in composition and rhetoric is preferred. The liberal arts department offers a rich catalog of electives focused on a spectrum of authors, genres, and periods to support the university’s general education program and its three minor programs. As such, candidates with a secondary specialty in women’s literature or African American literature are encouraged to apply.

SCAD Savannah is woven throughout the historic district of one of TIME magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places 2021.” The city of Savannah’s charming landscapes, vibrant festivals, and celebrated events provide a living laboratory for the study of art and design, as well as an energetic environment in which students, faculty, and staff flourish.
