Job Description Summary
The Prospect Analyst identifies actionable prospects to support the Advancement goals of the University of Pennsylvania. Actionable is defined as positive post prospect research outcomes such as visits, asks and gifts. This position requires a demonstrated ability to employ a wide variety of research tools to gather wealth indicators and philanthropic behavior and inclination. The Prospect Analyst must embrace the use of analytic tools including BI (Business Information) dashboards, statistical models and machine learning to strategically segment the University's prospect pool and identify prospects with the highest likelihood of establishing a philanthropic relationship with the University.

The Prospect Analyst produces research on a requested and proactive basis and will need to identify the appropriate research products based on a prospect's relationship status with the University. Research products include prospect lead memos, discovery profiles and leadership prospect reports. The Prospect Analyst must be able to gather large amounts of intelligence on a prospect and synthesize it into a clear and concise format for fundraisers. In addition, the Prospect Analyst will focus on identifying philanthropic history and demonstrated interest areas to drive the recommendation of prospects to the unit(s) that best align with those behaviors and interests.

The Prospect Analyst works with the Senior Prospect Analyst to consult regularly with schools, centers and fundraising units to optimize prospect portfolios for gift officers and to develop prospect identification strategies for funding priorities using data driven decision making. This role reports to the Senior Prospect Analyst and works on a team of 3-5 staff.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Identify the most actionable prospects for the University defined as positive post research outcomes.


  • Work with the team to build and maintain healthy prospect portfolios for fundraisers and consult regularly with schools, centers and fundraising units to meet their funding priorities.


  • Recommend new and existing prospects to schools, centers and fundraising units that best align with the prospect's demonstrated interests and philanthropic history and the priorities of the unit.


  • Determine and produce the appropriate research products based on a prospect's relationship status with the University including, but not limited to, prospect lead memos, discovery profiles and leadership prospect reports.


  • Leverage analytical tools, dashboards and data driven decision making to support the above goals.

Qualifications

BS/BA in field relevant to departmental activities and 1-3 years of directly relevant experience in a large, complex University or other non-profit fundraising environment or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Excellent ability to interpret and communicate complex and nuanced prospect management procedures. Strong data analytics skills and the ability to turn prospect data into actionable themes. Ability to assimilate and summarize large data sets. Excellent written and oral presentation skills. Ability to work in an intensive and time-focused campaign environment.
