Job Description Summary
The Assistant/Associate Director will be an experienced admissions professional within the Admissions Core, responsible for:
  • Recruiting, evaluating, selecting, and yielding first-year and transfer candidates to Penn's four undergraduate schools: the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Penn Nursing, and the Wharton School.
  • Managing a geographic territory, including building relationships with school educators and administrators and to attract appropriate applicants from the region and engaging with students and families.
  • Serving as a featured public speaker in a range of forums, both virtual and in-person, with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, community-based organizations, and Penn alumni.
  • Supporting the Admissions Visitor Center in welcoming visitors, participating in virtual or in-person daily programming, and handling inquiries via email, phone, or in-person.
  • Demonstrating project management skills, working as a leader and a collaborator within teams, leveraging technology and virtual tools, and prioritizing individual duties in relation to achieving the goals of the University in enrolling highly qualified, diverse, and intellectually passionate students.
  • The Assistant Director will be responsible for leading and/or supporting projects and initiatives to further of the work of Penn Admissions.
  • The Associate Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing office-wide initiatives to further the work of Penn Admissions, including collaboration with partners across the University and within the community. This may include management of a team and/or individuals in specific project-related work at certain points of the year.
    Designation as an Assistant Director or Associate Director will be dependent upon professional experience and education.

    Job Description

    Duties:
    • Participate in the annual comprehensive evaluation and selection process for both first-year and transfer applicants.
    • Manage a geographic territory to identify, recruit, and yield candidates. Lead a variety of virtual and in-person recruitment activities, including evening and/or weekend programs, educator workshops, school visits, college fairs, and regional alumni programs. Engage in 1-3 weeks of recruitment travel per year.
    • Support the Admissions Visit Center and Client Care as needed, in daily staffing, welcoming visitors, supporting daily virtual or in-person programming, and handling inquiries via phone, email, or in-person.
    • Assistant Director: Support and/or lead office-wide programs and projects, as assigned, to support the work of Penn Admissions.
    • Associate Director: As assigned, develop, implement, and manage office-wide initiatives in support of the work of Penn Admissions. Office-wide initiatives may include collaboration with multiple office teams and partners across campus.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


    Required Qualifications:
    Designation as an Assistant or Associate Director will be dependent upon professional experience and education. Successful candidates will have demonstrated project management skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to balance an individual schedule with multiple organizational calendars/schedules in a high-volume and timeline driven process. Strong candidates will be able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and remain open to feedback and growth. Strong candidates will be excited to work with students and constituents from a wide range of backgrounds. Dynamic written communication, customer service, public speaking, and interpersonal skills are required. The job requires a valid driver's license and the ability to work nights and weekends.

    Assistant Director position:

    A bachelor's degree is required, and a master's degree is preferred. Successful candidates will have at least 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, higher education or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful candidates will have an interest in furthering their project management and/or project planning skills. Strong candidates will have experience in credential evaluation/assessment and/or past participation in a selective process. Professional exposure to a CRM system (especially Slate), event planning, or analytics/modeling is appreciated.

    Associate Director position:

    A bachelor's degree is required, and a master's degree is preferred. Successful candidates will have at least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, higher education or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful candidates will have professional experience in project leadership, demonstrated success in project planning/management, or will have made more complex or specialized contributions to prior professional initiatives. Successful candidates will be both comfortable and eager to manage office initiatives that have an annual planning scope and that may involve collaboration with partners across campus and in the community. Professional experience in credential evaluation/assessment or past participation in a selective process is crucial. Professional experience and strong knowledge of a CRM system (especially Slate), event planning, or modeling/analytics is expected. The Associate Director position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Familiarity with Microsoft Office and video conferencing software is highly recommended. Demonstrated experience working with populations that are underrepresented in higher education is preferred. Familiarity with highly selective college admissions or the University of Pennsylvania undergraduate experience is strongly preferred. Service or leadership in student and/or professional organizations is helpful. Fluency in a second language is appreciated.

    Budgeted Pay Range:
    Assistant Director -- 68K to 74K commensurate with education and experience.

    Associate Director -- 78k to 84K commensurate with education and experience.
