Job Description Summary

Together, we graduate a select group of students with both degrees in three years.

The Associate Director for JD/MBA Recruiting and Financial Aid is the primary architect of a range of recruiting and matriculation strategies and administrative supports for this important program.

The Associate Director holds a twelve-month position and reports jointly to supervisors at Penn Law and Wharton (at Wharton, to Director of Admissions; at Penn Law, Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid).

Job Description

This position has responsibilities in the following areas:

Recruiting and Matriculation:
  • Develop and recommend an innovative and active recruiting program to attract top-level candidates to this exceptional program
  • Working with both schools' admissions offices:
    • develop recruiting material for the joint degree program; manage its publication to both schools' web sites; devise and implement a schedule of appropriate recruiting visits, coordinating these with both schools' admissions offices
    • responsible for being an active recruiter for the JD/MBA which is inclusive of 1-1 student phone calls and group presentations of various sizes both in person and online.
    • coordinate the development, implementation, and administration of a joint application process
    • coordinate and conduct interviews of prospective students
    • develop and implement a unified approach to notifying students of their admission to the program
    • develop and implement strategies to matriculate an exceptional class
    • develop and implement strategies to coordinate financial aid awards and notices
  • Recommend and manage a budget for recruiting materials, travel, and yield activities.
  • Attend Admissions Committee/Departmental meetings at both schools
  • Assist with other departmental initiatives at both the Law School and the Wharton School.


Programmatic and Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Working with the Director for Student Engagement for the Carey JD/MBA program, coordinate orientation activities for both the Law School and the Wharton school.
  • Collaborate with the Director for Student Engagement for the Carey JD/MBA program on various other programmatic initiatives as needed.
  • Serve as communication point person between both schools on a host of recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and programming issues. Ensure smooth communication between schools at all times.


Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: B.A./B.S. and 3-5 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree preferred. The ideal candidate has a strong collaborative background in an entrepreneurial environment. We seek a candidate with strong administrative and organizational experience, with three to five years progressively increasing responsibility (in academic administration or a law firm or business environment); or equivalent. Candidates should display an excellent understanding of university admissions and academic programming. The Associate Director will demonstrate clear examples of collaboration with a diverse set of constituents in prior work settings and have experience representing an institution to a range of prospective clients or students. The ideal candidate will have interpersonal, project and presentation skills including superior verbal and written communication skills and will be able to demonstrate through past experience an ability to work independently, exercise initiative, display independent judgment, and balance multiple tasks simultaneously. Commitment to the University of Pennsylvania Law School Staff Ideals of collaboration is required. Willingness to travel as possible in the post COVID market, occasionally keep non-traditional hours, and work in teams in the context of an innovative and entrepreneurial environment.
