Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist C position will conduct experimental research involving studies of the function of various tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes in inhibition of cell proliferation and apoptosis, using various cell and molecular biology techniques and mouse models. Assist with management of laboratory which involves ordering supplies, keeping inventories for various experimental reagents, maintenance of laboratory, and assisting PI with recruitment of new personnel.

Job Description

A Research Specialist C position is immediately available for experimental research on molecular and cell biology and cancer biology, aiming to develop novel cancer immunotherapy, especially chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-expressing T cells, to treat acute myeloid leukemia and various types of solid tumors including neuroendocrine tumors and colorectal cancer. The duties of this position include generating various plasmid DNA constructs including CARs with antibody scFv or VHH sequences. Further, the job duties include generating additional VHH binders to various tumor markers via constructing and screening of phage display libraries, verifying the binders' specificity to the tumor markers, constructing CAR constructs, generating the resulting CAR T cells, and testing the CART efficacy and toxicity in vitro and in vivo using various mouse tumor models. The Research Specialist C is expected to compile experimental protocols, make figures for publication and grant applications, use MS Word and Excel to keep inventories of experimental reagents, and present results or discussions in group meetings, lab meetings, and journal club. The research specialist should have good interpersonal skills to work effectively and collaborate with other scientists in the group. She/He/They will have opportunities to learn a variety of cutting-edge technologies for biomedical research and contribute significantly to development of novel cancer immunotherapy by exploring multiple novel approaches including novel T cell signaling pathways to further advance the career. The position will also act as a back-up to the lab coordinator for inventory and purchasing of lab supplies, cell lines, etc.

Qualifications

Candidates applying to the position should have at least a Bachelor's degree and 3-5 -years of experience in laboratory research involving various cell and molecular research, recombinant DNA technology, and generation and maintenance of mouse models or equivalent combination of education and experience required. It is preferable for the applicants to have direct experience on plasmid DNA construction, cell culture and transfection, Western blotting, flow cytometry analysis, and various mouse models.

This position is contingent upon funding.
