Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Psychology Department at Southern Utah University ( seeks one Assistant Professor in the Tenure Track. New graduates up to advanced Assistant Professors will be considered for this position. For advanced Assistant Professors from other institutions, years toward tenure may be applied at the time of hire. This is a full-time, 9-month position to commence August 2022. The salary range will be based on CUPA Benchmarks, and SUU offers a competitive benefits package.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include teaching a combination of 12 graduate and undergraduate credit hours per semester, including clinical supervision of doctoral students in the new Psy.D. program (, making scholarly/creative contributions, and providing departmental, college, and/or university service/leadership. The specific course assignments are negotiable but should include, in order of need, some combination of the following: Addictions Treatment, Principles of Assessment, Practicum, Drugs and Behavior, Psychometrics, Counseling & Psychotherapy, Group Dynamics, Case Conceptualization, Professional Ethics, Abnormal Psychology, General Psychology, or other specialized classes that suit the candidate's qualifications.

Required Qualifications -

Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. (an Ed.D. may be considered) in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program, demonstrate excellence in teaching, and have a commitment to student research, community engagement, and other high impact educational practices. Preferred specializations include substance abuse treatment, suicidology, eating disorders, and experience in rural and underserved populations. Other dimensions of clinical work may be considered. Experience in evidence-based engaged learning pedagogies is also desired. Experience in training graduate students will be considered an added strength. Qualified individuals will be licensed or license eligible in Utah. Strong interpersonal skills and collegiality are essential.
