Job Description Summary
As of member of the Communications Team, the role of Assistant Director of Digital Media is to advance the strategic goals and priorities of Penn Alumni Relations through data-informed digital engagement. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role is responsible for developing, improving, and implementing content across digital platforms, including but not limited to the Penn Alumni website, social media channels, email marketing, and other digital marketing/advertising initiatives to drive alumni engagement. In collaboration with the Director, implement short and long-term communications plans for Alumni Relations. This role is also responsible for developing training materials to provide strategic instruction to various internal and external constituents on utilizing digital communications.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Social Media Strategy: Manage all organic social media content across Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Develop and maintain a social media strategy including posting cadence, approval process, social guidelines, and tracking process. Monitor, analyze, and report on social media performance, aligning organic efforts with paid efforts and overall business/strategic goals. Lead social media listening and community management efforts, tracking audience sentiment and handling audience engagement.


  • Content Creation: Production, discovery, and adaptation of content for strategic marketing and engagement campaigns. Content should include both static and dynamic media, including live streaming and video production.


  • Research Trends and Measure Effectiveness: Monitor trends in marketing and communications and on social platforms. Develop and manage benchmarking systems to measure the effectiveness of communications and marketing initiatives, including email outreach, print publications, website activity, and calendaring.


  • Collaborate: Support and collaborate with teams across Development and Alumni Relations on marketing campaigns for various events and programs.


  • Salesforce/Anthology Support: Develop training materials to provide strategic instruction to various internal and external constituents on utilizing digital communications. Support Alumni Relations staff with creating and updating websites, event forms, data forms, member updates, and emails. Work closely with the Assistant Art Director and Assistant Director of Marketing Technology to design Salesforce email templates and content. Review and proof marketing emails before deployment.


Job Knowledge and Required Skills

  • Expertise in a wide range of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, as well as social media analytics tools
  • Strong news judgment and ability to originate social media content ideas and tailor them to each platform
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with various stakeholders
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Proactive self-starter who can work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to build relationships across the school and university, and work with a diverse group of people


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; 3 - 5 years experience in alumni relations, public relations, marketing, communication, and/or similar activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Exceptional writing, administrative, and interpersonal skills required.

Measurable success with leveraging digital marketing initiatives to grow audiences and engagement; High proficiency with social media channels and management platforms (e.g. Sprout Social), mobile photography and video documentation, email automation and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Anthology/iModules), analytics platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, Google Data Studio), and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required. Basic design and photo/video editing software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) are desirable.
