Technical Faculty Position: Ceramics Lab Director

The production labs in the School of Art are established to support the work of all students enrolled in the School. The Lab Director oversees the day to day functions of the Ceramics Lab; maintains the facility and supervises its student employees.

This position will orchestrate the use of the facility; oversee repairs and maintenance of the equipment, provide orientation for new students and guidance for continuing students; supervise student assistance and work-study records; and provide support for workshops. They will maintain and supervise tools and work area with special care in relation to safety issues; plan and implement the necessary changes to keep the facility abreast of technological developments, in sync with curricular needs.

Responsibilities include managing the budget and inventory for the area under the guidance of the Assistant Dean for Technology and Facilities and faculty curricular advisor. All technical faculty report to the Dean through the Assistant Dean for Technology and Facilities.

The qualified applicant must have experience teaching at the college level or comparable experience through activist community engagement, workshop facilitation, and other forms of instruction. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Instructional duties are limited to technique, but call for approximately two workshops (a series of six orientation sessions, or other informal instruction, may equal one workshop) or one class per semester. Independent study projects are limited to no more than seven per semester. There is an additional responsibility for arranging ceramic workshops taught by outside instructors. All these teaching responsibilities are to be arranged in consultation with the Dean, Program Director, and faculty advisor.

There are several times of the year when technical faculty must be fully present on campus. These are Practicum preparation and supervision, budget planning and year-end inventory, and preparation for CSSSA.

Commitment of a minimum of the equivalent of four days per week on campus with office hours posted.
