The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) seeks applications and nominations for the newly created position of Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer (CDO). The inaugural CDO will use a data-informed approach to provide school-wide leadership and support in pursuit of a culture of dignity, respect, transparency, and appreciation of differences. The CDO will join the institution at a transformative time as Wharton assesses its identity and strengthens a culture of excellence by creating a central resource and executive leader of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Under the leadership of the Dean, Dr. Erika James, and as a member of the school’s senior leadership team, the inaugural CDO will be an unwavering diversity champion, trusted ally, and scholarly practitioner who values a business education and has demonstrated experience as a skilled administrator and strategic leader. Working closely with the Dean and other key leaders, the CDO will lead and inform the strategic discussion advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as build, guide, and assess such policies, practices, and programs to fortify Wharton’s dedication to inclusive excellence and contributions to society.

Reporting to the Dean, the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer will be a member of Wharton’s senior leadership team. This individual will partner with the Deputy Dean and other senior leaders in integrating diversity, equity, and inclusive practices into core activities throughout the school and help build an overarching strategy, aligned with existing programs and initiatives. The CDO will support and partner with the full spectrum of community members, including faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and alumni, to integrate and enhance programs, partnerships, and initiatives towards building a dynamic and purposeful community.

 

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader and subject matter expert in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Innovative, resourceful, and creative, the CDO will be a skilled communicator and relationship-builder capable of facilitating courageous conversations and working across lines of difference. The position of CDO offers an accomplished professional the opportunity to meaningfully engage the Wharton community in knowledgeable dialogue, critical self-reflection, and transformative action to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff reach their fullest potential individually and collectively.
