General Summary

The Department of Criminal Justice Sciences (CJS) at Illinois State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The Department Chair is expected to provide effective leadership for the department and a vision for promoting excellence in research, teaching, service, and community engagement. The Chair is the chief administrative officer responsible for strategic planning, fiscal administration, enrollment management, personnel management curriculum development and review, advancement, and assessment. The Chair must have a strong commitment to the department’s mission, support the faculty in their work as teachers and scholars, and supervise the development and assessment of the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field with a distinguished record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The Department Chair is expected to develop and foster collaborative relationships with university and external constituents and must have strong communication skills and the demonstrated ability to manage the budget. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.

Salary, Rank, and Tenure: The position is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment. The salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included. The preferred start date is July 1, 2022.

THE DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SCIENCES The Department of Criminal Justice Sciences (www.criminaljustice.ilstu.edu  ) is one of six departments and two schools in the College of Applied Sciences and Technology and has approximately 530 undergraduate majors and 30 Master’s students. We pride ourselves on individualized attention to our students, face-to-face instruction, and small class sizes. The Department is comprised of 16 full-time tenure track faculty and several non-tenure track faculty, as well as a Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies and Student Services, a Graduate Coordinator, an Academic Advisor, an Internship Coordinator, and a civil-service Support Staff member.

The College of Applied Science and Technology is home to 4,054 undergraduate students, 435 graduate students and 127 full-time faculty. Required Qualifications

1. Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field
