Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Annual Giving is responsible for oversight of the Law School's Annual Giving Program. The Director of Annual Giving has direct and primary responsibility for creating, implementing, administering, and managing programs, staff and volunteers to meet the Law School's annual giving goals. The Director of Annual Giving will manage a prospect pool of approximately 250 high-level annual giving and reunion-year prospects.

Job Description

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Program Strategy

  • Creation and implementation of a yearly strategic plan for annual fundraising in support of the Law School. Determine cultivation, solicitation, planned giving, and stewardship strategies based on annual fund best practices paired with data analysis and a knowledge of emerging technologies. Undertake new initiatives to acquire, retain, and upgrade annual donors.
  • Manage solicitation of annual giving prospects through a variety of modalities including digital and direct mail, phonathon, and in-person solicitation for the purposes of donor acquisition, retention, and increased dollars raised for the Fund.
  • Collaboration with Law School Communications, direct mail vendors, and the Central University Annual Giving team to envision and execute all direct mail and electronic solicitation pieces.
  • In consultation with Stewardship colleagues, determine and execute stewardship plans for annual fund donors.
  • Partner with major gift and planned giving colleagues to identify potential prospects from among annual donors
  • Management of Benjamin Franklin, Young Benjamin Franklin, Dean Gary Clinton, and Red & Blue Giving Societies, including all appeal development and pipeline development.
  • Oversight of Reunion Committee development, management, and fundraising


Staff Supervision

  • Supervision of Assistant Director of Annual Giving and Annual Giving Coordinator
  • Advise Executive Director of Development on appropriate frontline metrics and expectations for Assistant Director
  • Management and assistance to Assistant Director of Annual Giving's oversight of Class Agent Program, PennLaw@Work , GOLD program, and 3L Gift Campaign.
  • Manage timelines and calendars to set clear expectations and deadlines for Coordinator


Prospect Portfolio Management & Direct Fundraising

  • Identification, development and management of an annual giving prospect pool.
  • Focus on minimum gift ask is $10,000/year over five years for unrestricted purposes.
  • Making 150 personal visits per fiscal year with a focus on reunion-year and Benjamin Franklin Society prospects.


Collaborative Projects

  • Partnering with the Stewardship Team to create a robust and compelling stewardship plan for Annual Donors.
  • Collaborating with the Assistant Director and the Alumni Relations Team to create a yearly plan for engaging young alumni.
  • Engaging with the Assistant Director and the Events Team to create Benjamin Franklin Society, GOLD, and Reunion events that recognize Annual Fund donors.
  • Interfacing with Central University Annual Giving team to customize and monitor the telemarketing program.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of fundraising or related experience included but not limited to marketing; sales; admissions and/or career planning; preferably in a higher education or university setting.
  • Knowledge and experience with data base systems and software packages especially in Windows environment.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to organize tasks and priorities, and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in small office environment with team approach.
  • Demonstrated success in program and staff management.
  • Occasional overnight travel and some evening and weekend work.
  • Valid driver's license preferred due to required travel.
