Job Description Summary
The Data Analyst at ISSS is responsible for the accuracy of all data in iPenn and SEVIS, to ensure a high level of data integrity and compliance through data management, quality control, issue diagnostics and resolution, data cleanup, data integration, data analysis, and data matching with other Penn systems. This position includes analysis of automatic and manual processes that deliver data to identify issues and feasible improvements, monitoring iPenn and SEVIS alerts, coordinating with relevant users and stakeholders to identify and resolve data related issues, whether the resolution occurs on a system level or from additional staff members. The data analyst will configure templates and automated workflows to handle varying incoming data sources, move rule-based processing into automated workflows to open ISSS staff time for more nuanced immigration issues, analyze SEVIS reportable data from iPenn, Penn student records, and Penn HR records to identify and remediate gaps in reporting.
The Data Analyst will also monitor and address data errors to identify feasible process changes to reduce errors proactively and correct data integrity alerts within iPenn while collaborating with ISSS team to identify the cause and appropriate process adjustments to eliminate the issue.
Generate routine, such as fee processing, and ad hoc reports, such as student visa delay reporting, to meet ISSS business needs and requirements from Penn community. Generate diagrams that illustrate the flow of specific data points among different systems and identify process points that cause problems and propose alternatives. Liaise with other central Penn units that handle international student/scholar/faculty processes, including student records/NGSS project and HR records/HCM project. The Data Analyst is responsible for clarifying existing processes and gaps, as well as matching existing data to propose and validate the potential of future process improvements.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of data analyst experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with databases and relational database design; advanced technical skills with SQL and Excel; excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to learn and work independently in a collaborative environment, apply new technologies and business rules quickly, and problem solving to propose technical solutions for reducing data/system redundancy and ensuring data integrity. U.S. Citizenship or legal permanent residency status as required by federal regulations.

DESIRED: Experience with database management and ColdFusion strongly desired; hands on experience with data visualization strongly desired. Demonstrated knowledge with SEVIS in F and J or employment based petition requirements; DSO/ARO, SEVIS and Sunapsis system experience; and cross-cultural or multi-cultural experience.
