Clinical Assistant Professor – 9 Month Appt., Physical Therapy

The Department of Physical Therapy at Missouri State University invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure track appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank to begin August 23, 2021. The Clinical Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position with responsibilities for clinical education and service. The candidate will advance and support the scholarship of engagement through creative work done in collaboration with academic and/or community partners that contributes in significant ways to the overall mission of Missouri State University.

Responsibilities: The Clinical Assistant Professor will be expected to supervise and mentor students in clinical and laboratory settings, integrated clinical experiences, and clinical education. This may include assisting in curricular development, promotion of student development of strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and manual skills. The Clinical Assistant Professor will demonstrate outstanding and effective communication, mentoring, and relationship-building skills with a diverse faculty and student body. This individual will assist in coordinating and integrating student laboratory and patient management experiences across the curriculum to achieve program goals, have an interest in collaborative scholarly activity, and participate in service opportunities at the department, college, university levels, as well as within the surrounding community.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a physical therapist eligible for licensure in Missouri, hold a minimum of a clinical doctorate in physical therapy, have a Cyriax-based advanced clinical practice manual therapy certification (for example, the clinical certification in orthopedic manual therapy through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine) or be enrolled in an advanced Cyriax-based clinical practice manual therapy certification program with an expected completion date of December 2025, have previous academic teaching experience with demonstrated excellence in teaching, and have at least five years of orthopedic clinical and administrative experience in an outpatient, manual therapy setting, treating patients with acute, recurrent, and chronic orthopedic and neuromuscular dysfunction. The ability to demonstrate knowledge of, respect for, and skills to successfully engage with those of differing cultures or backgrounds is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate inclusive teaching practices and will be knowledgeable about the use of student focused pedagogy in the classroom in order to engage students in the learning process and will join a unit that is dedicated to providing students with access to high impact practices aimed at increasing student retention, persistence, and success.

Salary and Benefits: Salary and rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, vision, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of full-time MSU employees are entitled to tuition waivers for dependents, up to 15 credits/year. The position is a nine-month appointment.
