The University of Vermont seeks a strategic, inspiring, and energetic Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The Vice Provost will lead the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion , comprised of the Center for Cultural Pluralism, Prism Center, Mosaic Center for Students of Color, Women and Gender Equity Center, and Interfaith Center. The Vice Provost serves on, and may chair, a variety of leadership committees and has oversight of the university’s DEI signature events. The Vice Provost will provide leadership for a staff of more than 20 and as a member of the Provost’s Integrated Leadership Team, the Vice Provost will help support the Academic Success Goals .

The Vice Provost will be a creative and forceful thinker, skilled communicator, strategist, and visible force on campus. The Vice Provost will develop key relationships, both formally and informally, across the university, and work closely with other university leaders to collaboratively develop and implement a shared strategic vision across a complex institution to drive organizational change. The Vice Provost will convey the vision for inclusive excellence and promote a tone in the UVM community of open conversation, creativity, and shared goals relating to strategic advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The desired candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success in advancing inclusive excellence with the ability to develop and maintain internal and external strategic partnerships. The Vice Provost will have a keen understanding of the emerging and historical issues around diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and an ability to help others understand these perspectives, as well as a strong implementer of ideas with the ability to understand, be comfortable with, and take managed risks. The university seeks a Vice Provost who will make strategic requests backed by solid planning, robust data, and rigorous analysis, clearly tied to measurable objectives and goals. In doing so, the Vice Provost will be asked to formulate a broadly-vetted, efficient, and integrated strategic diversity plan that is proactive and ambitious while maintaining the flexibility required to respond to emerging trends, academic cycles, and the reality of evolving demographics at the University of Vermont along many dimensions of diversity. The desired candidate will have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree; strong executive leadership and proven skills in supervision, mediation and conflict-management; at least five years of increasing leadership responsibility in diversity, equity and inclusion. A candidate with an exceptional record of scholarship will be considered for a tenured full professor position.
