Assistant Professor in Integrative Biology

Assistant Professor in Integrative Biology

The Division of Biological Sciences (DBS) at the University of Missouri-Columbia seeks an outstanding individual with an innovative and integrative research program spanning multiple disciplines, that would extend and complement existing faculty strengths in DBS. We recognize the need for fostering a diverse and inclusive community, in order to achieve our core values of excellence in education and research. The Division of Biological Sciences places a high value on diversity and inclusivity ( https://biology.missouri.edu/node/189 ). A successful candidate is expected to contribute to this core value by engaging in mentoring activities to support our efforts, with particularly an ability to directly provide mentorship to students and trainees from underrepresented groups. Thus, DBS is committed to increasing the representation of historically underrepresented minorities across all levels of its community.

We seek applications from candidates working with model systems in any group of organisms, especially those employing an integrative approach to fundamental questions in biology. An integrative body of work could include: leveraging modern genomic and bioinformatic tools; integrating empirical (laboratory and/or field-based) approaches with modeling; work at the interface of genotype/phenotype and environment; and/or integration of biological research and biology education. A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion through research, teaching, and service. The candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, and to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Also, candidates are expected to synergize with the broad range of research themes within DBS and the Colleges at the University of Missouri, including (but not limited to) potential interactions with a new Precision Health initiative ( https://precisionhealthinstitute.missouri.edu ) that is a priority at MU.

Minimum qualifications include a PHD in Biology or related field at the time of appointment. Candidates will be evaluated on their work with model systems in any group of organisms, especially those employing an integrative approach to fundamental questions in biology.

Applications will be evaluated with an initial blind review process, and should include a cover letter describing the applicant’s interest in the position, and the following documents for review:

1) a statement outlining the applicants previous contributions to inclusion and equity, as well as how they would further those contributions at MU; 2) a teaching and mentoring statement that outlines relevant experience and the applicant’s future interests; 3) a research statement including a summary of past work and a description of the applicant’s future research direction; 4) a curriculum vitae; and 5) contact information for 3 letters of reference.

Review of applications will commence January 11, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants wishing to apply should do so here .
