The Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track full-time position in Latin American history. Subfields and specialties are open, though candidates with expertise or teaching interests in indigenous history, economic history and development, critical race theory, and transpacific history are particularly encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include a two-semester sequence in Latin American history, upper-division classes in the candidate’s specialty, and classes contributing to the minor program in Latin American Studies. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to college-wide programs such as Global Cultures, Western Culture, and Rhetoric. Candidates would have the opportunity if desired to contribute to the college’s May Term abroad program.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference via Interfolio. Address the letter to Dr. James Frusetta, Search Committee Chair, Department of History, Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden Sydney, VA 23943. Inquiries may be sent to email@example.com. Review of applications will begin on December 10, 2020. First-round virtual interviews are anticipated for January; we will ask candidates selected for those preliminary interviews to provide a sample of research, teaching evaluations, and a statement on how you foster equity and inclusion both within the classroom and in co-curricular interactions with students. Spring on-campus visits would be undertaken if the situation with Covid-19 safely allows them.
