Temporary Carpenter/Painter

As a carpenter/painter, you will be responsible for instructing students on the latest technical applications in set design and construction, building and installing sets for productions, and liaising between the practicum students assigned to the shops and the production technical director. In this position you will be expected to assist with scheduling and supervising practicum and work-study students, supervising the maintenance of the Crites Hall scene shop and the Mondanaro Theater, maintaining all workshop inventories, and interpreting construction drawings and paint elevations for entertainment arts construction as directed by the production manager and production technical director.

With collaborations throughout SCAD, you will work on building industry-standard sets for television, live performance, themed entertainment, and interactive experiences, assisting with the supervision of 200+ students each quarter in the School of Film and Television buildings.This position is also responsible for implementing advanced carpentry and painting projects as assigned by the production technical director.

This temporary position will run from May 2024 to the end of August 2024.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in disciplines of production design or equivalent professional experience
  • Portfolio evidence of high-level carpentry and painting for the performing arts
  • Experience with entertainment Arts rigging and CAD drafting (AutoCAD, VRay, Rhino, and KeyShot)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working for themed entertainment designers in building attractions or building movie or television sets under the direction of a production designer

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
  • Class “C” Georgia driving license or the ability to obtain one

Travel Required:
  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
