Shop Technician

As the shop technician, you will make clay and glazes, research new materials and techniques, monitor open studio hours, order inventory, and maintain the throwing wheels and kilns. You will conduct regular kiln firings, photograph outstanding student work for the department, work with the ceramics club to host events and exhibitions in the studio, and collaborate with faculty to support SCADextra workshops and SCAD Day programs to continuously grow the ceramics minor. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with the ceramics faculty to meet studio equipment and supply expectations for all ceramics classes while supporting SCADextra workshops and SCAD Day programs. Additionally, you will support end-of-year exhibitions and other special events.

Minimum Qualifications: 
  • Prior experience working as a ceramic artist
  • Prior experience firing ceramic work
  • Prior experience with raku

Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.F.A. in a related field

Travel required:
  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
