Vice President of Finance, Technology, and Administration

Company Description:

Framingham State University (FSU), a public regional comprehensive university, located in the heart of Massachusetts' MetroWest region, seeks an innovative, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President for Finance, Technology, and Administration (VPFTA).

FSU was founded by Horace Mann in 1839 for a singular purpose - meeting a public need to promote the public good. At its founding as the nation's first public normal school, that need was for comprehensively educated public school teachers who would, in turn, promote an educated citizenry. Public need continues to evolve and FSU right along with it. FSU students and alumni are making waves in the fashion industry, designing nutrition plans for professional athletes, writing for major media and news organizations, and working for Fortune 500 companies. FSU is unapologetically a public institution offering accessible, affordable educational opportunities that integrate an academically challenging liberal arts education with workforce preparation, in a highly personalized teaching environment. FSU's programs have expanded but its purpose and commitment to public education for the public good remain steadfast.

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the President, the VPFTA is responsible for a broad portfolio which includes the business office, facilities and capital planning, information technology services, and transportation, as well as auxiliary sites, services, and contracts. The VPFTA is FSU's chief financial officer and oversees an annual operating budget of $184.7 million. In addition to serving as a key member of the President's Executive Leadership Team, they will also be a primary liaison to the University's Board of Trustees Finance Committee and lead the University's Budget Planning Committee.

The VPFTA will be a collegial and collaborative campus partner, providing strategic leadership for all short- and long-term financial decision-making. They will be a motivating change agent with an investment mindset, working across the institution to move forward the University's enrollment plan, identify strategic investment and revenue generating opportunities, and implement sustainable business plans. Overseeing complex operational units, they will implement best practices and innovative uses of technology to strengthen administrative functions and advance strategies for campus maintenance, improvement, and space utilization. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the Massachusetts Public Higher Education System, and bring an understanding of how state laws and regulations impact the University's approach to financial and operational functions.

The next VPFTA will be a vital member of the FSU community and the wider MetroWest region. They will possess the interpersonal skills to genuinely connect and partner with a wide range of highly dedicated stakeholders. They will bring a deep appreciation of FSU's mission as a public regional comprehensive university and uphold FSU's culture of transparency, caring, integrity, and inclusivity. Given FSU's deep commitment to DEI, the next VPFTA should possess a track record of fostering and promoting these values within a complex institution. Finally, as the leader of a large team, the VPFTA will be a strong and supportive manager, modeling a culture of accountability, openness, and high-quality service while establishing processes and structures that utilize the expertise of their strong team.
