Director of the Walter and Linda Evans Center for African American Studies

As the director of the Walter and Linda Evans Center for African American Studies, you will develop educational programming that fulfills the center and meets the needs of the university, the surrounding Savannah community, and international audiences. You will work in concert with the director of museum programming and operations to conceive, plan, coordinate, promote, and execute museum programming while developing relationships with SCAD faculty in various departments. As the director, you will serve as a SCAD ambassador, conducting Walter and Linda Evans Center tours with university audiences and special guests.

The ideal candidate will be able to plan and implement several projects and build and maintain university and community engagement through creative programming and marketing initiatives. They will remain well-informed and engaged with contemporary Black culture, art, and literature consistently and diligently. They will be able to work cross-departmentally with the events, exhibitions, and communications teams to develop programming and ensure that the marketing and events are in line with SCAD's expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:    
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years experience in programming and an academic setting
  • Exemplary communication, presentation, project management, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to social change and education in line with the values of the center
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
  • Valid driver’s license

Travel Required: 10% to 20% 

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
