Research&Instruction Librarian

As the research and instruction librarian, you will plan and lead library instruction for undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of formats and collaborate with faculty and staff to connect student needs to relevant resources, skills, and information literacy goals. Responsibilities of the librarian include developing an in-depth knowledge of library resources and services to advise and assist students, faculty, and staff and contributing to outreach programs that promote library resources to the SCAD community.

As the research and instruction librarian you will maintain online instructional resources; identify current and emerging technologies that support research and instructional services; and assist in maintaining statistics and assessments of research, reference, instruction, and outreach services. In this position you will be expected to participate in collection development, evaluate current and potential library resources, and contribute to an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement by exchanging ideas and feedback in all service areas above. Additionally, you will proactively identify opportunities to advance department, library, and university goals.

Minimum Qualifications:   
  • ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree
  • Ability to plan and provide best-practices library instruction with superior verbal, written, customer service, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Current knowledge in libraries to address general and subject-specific information resources and effective search strategies
  • Up-to-date and knowledgeable about emerging technologies that support reference and instructional services
  • Education or significant research experience in one or more subjects offered at SCAD

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff in an academic library environment
  • Ability to create visual media using Adobe creative suite or related software

Travel Required:
  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
