Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Division is seeking an Associate Director, Shared Identity and Interest Alumni Engagement. Along with the Director of Alumni Engagement, this position implements the strategy to engage GWs alumni through shared identity and/or shared interest engagement opportunities.
DAR is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
Job Summary:
This experienced position devises strategies and develops opportunities to build and maintain relationships with alumni, to strengthen alumni engagement, and to deepen their affinity to GW and its programs through the development of shared identity and interest alumni programming. This position executes alumni communications and marketing plans, recruits, trains, manages and stewards alumni volunteers, executes alumni programs and events as appropriate, and partners with school representatives for alumni efforts. This role works with students, faculty and staff in the implementation and development of alumni programs, and partners with other departments to engage alumni for prospect identification, discovery and to maximize constituent participation in GW fundraising efforts.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

- Along with the Director of Alumni Engagement, this position implements the strategy to engage GWs alumni through shared identity and/or shared interest engagement opportunities.
- Manage existing – and identify new – shared identity alumni networks, which includes volunteer management, event coordination, goal setting, and metrics tracking.
- Create programs and engagement opportunities that connect alumni based on identities and interests, including but not limited to anniversary celebrations, student-alumni connections, and on-campus heritage celebrations.
- Partner with the Division of Student Affairs, Multicultural Student Services Center, Schools, and other campus partners to identify opportunities for collaboration that promote alumni engagement goals.
- The Associate Director also manages an engagement portfolio of approximately 50 alumni volunteers; and completes 50+ face-to-face discovery visits annually with an emphasis on engaging and qualifying potential alumni volunteers and donors.
- This position may be required to travel annual to support GW alumni events across the US.

- Professional experience in a higher education setting, including experience in advancement, volunteer management, or a related field such as communications, marketing, or public relations preferred.
- Established flexibility and initiative; the ability to work independently, as well as thrive in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
- Experience with event planning, project management and interoffice collaboration is a plus.
- Demonstrated strong writing, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to domestic networks about 25% of the time
- Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend events as needed.
