Dean & Chief Executive Officer
Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine

Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean and Chief Executive Officer.

Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) is preparing the next generation of medical students to improve the health and well-being of patients and communities across the nation. KPSOM matriculated its first class of 50 students in 2020 and leverages the values and capabilities of its integrated health system, and the unique relationship between the independent Permanente Medical Groups and the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan/Hospitals organization, to prepare students for future-facing clinical practice and health system leadership. The Dean and Chief Executive Officer (Dean) will lead and implement KPSOM strategic goals and serve as a catalyst for transforming medical education.

The next Dean will be a nationally recognized innovator and leader in academic medicine, one who is passionate about the mission, vision, and values of KPSOM and is prepared to manage the cultural, strategic, and operational changes necessary to continue its success. The Dean will have a track record of collaborative partnership across organizational boundaries, demonstrate the learning agility that is characteristic of great leaders, and exhibit the cultural intelligence to effectively engage all those that contribute to the School’s success while focusing their efforts to benefit the School, the community, and society. The Dean will seek consensus among diverse stakeholders and will be a courageous leader who can bring confidence to a broad audience.

As KPSOM approaches accreditation and prepares for the graduation of its inaugural class in 2024, KPSOM seeks a Dean who will embrace the leadership role in its next phase of growth and development. Continuing the growth of innovation will be a critical focus of the Dean in addition to building new programs and identifying areas of new opportunity, recruiting new leadership when appropriate, and identifying both needs and new sources of support. The Dean will also oversee the development of the research portfolio at KPSM and enable the development of productive research collaborations internally and externally. Concurrently, the Dean will work closely with Kaiser Permanente to advance the goals of the School while meeting the needs of the community. At each step of these important endeavors, the Dean will communicate with, engage, and inspire faculty, staff, students, and the community, building confidence in the future of KPSOM. The Dean will report to the KPSOM Board of Directors.
