Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Illinois State University is seeking applications for a nine-month, assistant professor tenure-track position beginning August 16, 2024. We seek one faculty member to work on elementary grades (1 through 5) teacher preparation.

The new appointee will join an energetic and collegial group of mathematics educators in a Mathematics Department housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department has more than 27 tenure-line positions, including 11 in Mathematics Education. It offers Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Mathematics as well as a Ph.D. program in Mathematics Education. The Department provides all content and methods courses in Mathematics Education for majors in elementary, middle, and secondary level education. The Master’s program offers a concentration in Secondary Mathematics Education and a sequence in Elementary and Middle School Mathematics Education. The Ph.D. program offers specializations at both the K–9 and K–12 levels. The Department has approximately 230 undergraduate majors (about 50% choosing the Secondary Teacher Certification sequence) and approximately 55 graduate students, including 16 in the doctoral program. Required Qualifications
1) An earned doctorate in Mathematics Education or closely related area by August 16, 2024.
2) Evidence of the ability to teach a wide range of courses focused on mathematics and mathematics education;
3) Evidence of a strong commitment to teacher education and to quality teaching
4) An active research program in Mathematics Education compatible with research interests of current faculty.
5) At least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience
6) Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience at the elementary-school level.
