Chair of Fine Arts

SCAD Savannah seeks an energetic chair of fine arts to provide vision for, lead, and evaluate unparalleled programs that extend the boundaries of art education. In this full-time role, you will also maintain a visible onsite presence.

As a chair of fine arts, you will strengthen the substantial reputation for quality of the school and work with faculty on curriculum development, assessment activities, and policy and procedure requirements and implementation. You will conduct classroom observations, annual faculty performance evaluations, and ensure mentoring and faculty development opportunities. You will assist in the hiring of faculty, make decisions on student academic matters, and assist in the recruitment of students. Modeling academic and professional leadership, you will ensure all faculty and staff in the school work toward the achievement of the SCAD mission, vision, and values, as well as the university's strategic plan and the 8Rs (responsibility, resources, recruitment, retention, recognition, revenue, research, and results). Among other duties, you will also teach courses, review graduate student applications, and place students in internships and careers as needed.

The successful candidate is a spectacular written and verbal communicator, with equally exceptional problem-solving, project-management, and organizational skills. Highly detailed, the candidate is able to transform strategic vision into measurable actions and has a thorough understanding of curriculum development and the use of assessment to improve student learning and academic programs. A willingness to collaborate with various departments to act in the best interest of students and the university is essential, as is an exceptional work ethic. The candidate should be dedicated to personal and professional integrity, and demonstrate the ability to conduct thoughtful and fair performance evaluations (e.g., classroom observations, individual meetings, written evaluations).

Minimum Qualifications:

- Terminal degree in a closely related discipline
- Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise, including leadership and supervisory experience
- Demonstrated success in creative and collaborative endeavors
