Job Description Summary
Inspired by industry and student demand, and faculty expertise, Wharton launched the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative on July 1, 2022. The mission of Wharton's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative is, consistent with the vision of Joseph Wharton, to harness the power of business to "solve the social problems incident to our civilization." We will do this by conducting research that investigates the intersection of ESG factors and business and by further advancing our best-in-class education of current and future practitioners, enabling them to serve a world undergoing tremendous change.

The initiative unifies and builds upon several of Wharton's existing research centers, including the Business, Climate, and Environment and Political Risk Labs of the Wharton Risk Center, the Wharton Social Impact Initiative, the ESG Analytics Lab, and the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics.

Job Description

Building off the success of existing programs, and with the aim of expanding them in scope and number, the Senior Associate Director will be a program leader on the ESG Initiative team. Responsible for designing, leading and evaluating experiential learning programs for the ESG Initiative, the Senior Associate Director will also be responsible for managing the team members that will - alongside the Senior Associate Director - execute these transformational student experiences. The Senior Associate Director will report to the Managing Director of the ESG Initiative and will also work with ESG-I marketing and communications team to amplify available opportunities with and stories of programs. This work will involve interactions with many stakeholders, including guest speakers, students, and ESG experts at Penn/Wharton and external to the school.

The Senior Associate Director's responsibilities will include:
  • Design and lead experiential learning opportunities for the ESG Initiative: design and delivery, launch, management, measurement and evaluation, growth, and end-to-end operations for a portfolio of programs

  • Manage program staff, including manager and program consultant(s); program team under Senior Associate Director likely to expand in years to come

  • Establish partnerships with external organizations and internal Penn/Wharton groups to advance programs at ESG-I

  • Work with ESG-I marketing and communications team to amplify available opportunities with and stories of programs

  • Additional duties as assigned


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 to 7 years of professional experience related to student programming, climate or social impact work OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university with preference given to degrees related to social impact, climate and/or business
  • Strong leadership and management skills to lead a portfolio of programs and the team members who support them;
  • Experience in program development, design, and management, including creating work plans, managing budgets and developing financial plans, forecasting and tracking expenses.
  • Experience with program data: determining, tracking and interpreting KPIs
  • Strong learning orientation and ability to respond positively to feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to function both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to interact effectively and comfortably with diverse group of students, senior executives/professionals, and staff with demonstrated ability to cultivate and manage relationships professionally and with good judgment with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to multi-task in a time sensitive, high-pressure environment, meet deadlines, prioritize workload and execute flawlessly on critical programs.
  • Must possess skills in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience with climate/environment and/or social impact work strongly preferred

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
