Job Description Summary
The Biddle Law Library Archives and Special Collections Department seeks a graduate student intern to assist with inventorying and surveying the National Bankruptcy Archives, American Law Institute Archives, and the Biddle Collections. This position is a fixed term of 12-18 months and is part-time (20hrs/week). The successful candidate will join a talented team dedicated to providing outstanding research support at a highly collaborative law school that prides itself on cross-disciplinary studies. This position reports directly to the Archivist, under the Associate Director for Collections and Operations, and will also work closely with the department's Project Archivist. They will be primarily responsible for conducting collection surveys and inventories for processed and under-processed collections.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Archivist, the Archives intern will be primarily responsible for conducting collection surveys for preservation purposes for processed collections, inventorying collections with the specific goal of identifying audiovisual and born digital material, and creating processing plans for unprocessed or minimally processed collections. The intern will be responsible for updating inventory and collection records in ArchivesSpace and assisting with data cleanup projects. The intern will also have the opportunity to engage in discussions related to incorporating reparative and inclusive descriptive practices into the Archives Department's policies and processing practices. In addition, the intern will assist with promoting archives collections via social media and digital exhibitions, minor collection preservation tasks, scanning collection material, preparing collections for a potential move to off-site storage, and assisting with research inquiries.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled student, or recent graduate, with graduate level courses and training in archival science
  • Experience with archival content management software preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively, ability to work independently, and a commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • A commitment to diversity and equity
