The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a Biostatistician position. Expertise is required in the specific area of statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, data science, or related field. Ideal expertise should also include experience in imaging research studies and specifically in the evaluation of medical imaging measurements (e.g., x-ray/CT/MRI) as cancer biomarkers. The ideal applicant should also have prior experience in conceptualizing study designs and implementing statistical analyses, conducting analyses for multi-disciplinary and collaborative research studies, and a track record of co-authored peer-reviewed research publications.

Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and trainees (e.g., graduate students, postdoc) on the data-related aspects of research projects to design, implement, analyze, and disseminate related statistical analyses. These responsibilities will include consulting on research study designs, including sample size calculations, power analysis computation, data management, statistical analysis, and presentation of results in preparation for research publications. Identifying and addressing potential research issues and suggesting alternative statistical designs and modeling techniques. Ensure the appropriate study design is implemented, especially when guiding analyses conducted by research trainees, evaluating quality of data, and applying appropriate statistical methods to provide an accurate interpretation of collected data to researchers. Data may be required to be imported/exported from/to various statistical software, including REDCap, Qualtrics, Excel, into Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), R, Python, and/or Matlab, including writing custom programs to import/export data and conduct data analysis using SAS, STATA, R, and other current programming codes. The successful applicant will contribute to the long-term goals of our Department's cancer imaging research program, including designing and implementing experiments; managing and meeting research project deliverables related to statistical analyses, taking the lead in producing peer-reviewed publications, contributing to research grant applications; guiding research trainees, including graduate students and postdocs, on conducting statistical analyses.

This position offers an opportunity to participate in cutting-edge collaborative multi-disciplinary projects in the Radiology department as well as the departments of pathology, oncology, genetics, biostatistics, informatics, and epidemiology. The successful applicant will be a member of the Computational Biomarker Imaging Group (CBIG), a research group in the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA) of the Department of Radiology, with a vision is to act as a translational catalyst between computational imaging science and clinical cancer research by integrating image analysis, machine learning and AI in clinically relevant cancer imaging applications. CBIG collaborates with faculty in the University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center (ACC), the Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI), and the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB). In addition, collaborators across different institutions include a range of experts in informatics, medical physics, radiology, radiation oncology, genetics, pathology, oncology, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology Data Science, Computer Science, or related field and 3-5 years of related (analytic) experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must have applied knowledge of the following gained through professional experience or graduate coursework and/or research projects: (i) statistical programming using SAS, R, or STATA for data manipulation, graphing, and modeling; (ii) statistical modeling using linear, logistic, Poisson, fixed effects, and mixed-effects regression with time series, categorical, cross-sectional, panel, and multilevel data; (iii) conducting survival analysis; and (iv) designing and conducting quantitative studies, including reviewing academic literature, identifying research questions and hypotheses, justifying statistical methods, implementing methodologies, and interpreting findings. Ideal qualifications should also include prior experience in imaging research studies, and specifically in the evaluation of medical imaging measurements (e.g., x-ray/CT/MRI) as cancer biomarkers. Prior experience in scientific writing and editing is a plus.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
