Job Description Summary
This position will report to ISSS Assistant Director (Client Services) and provide cross-functional support to advising and document processing services to our incoming and current international students and scholars. Administer F and J programs as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Act as an ISSS liaison for Penn Departments to ensure government agency reporting requirements such as case assignment, health insurance verification, or any relevant position update for visiting scholars, employee or faculty are done properly. Advise international students, scholars, schools and departments in person, by phone, via email and through online chat regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Penn resources, and personal and cultural matters. Facilitate and process I-20 and DS-2019 document processing as well as requests from continuing students and scholars i.e. travel signatures, invitation letters, J-1 Academic Training and out of country requests and various reporting eforms. Provide administrative support for employment-based applications (H-1B, J-1, E-3, TN, PERM) cases (such as case assignment, record updates, compliance reviews, withdrawal, verification, shipping, etc). Supervise two ISSS Student Assistants and act as a liaison between Global Program Assistant and ISSS staff to handle frontline customer service. Participate in and support ISSS programming such as orientation, Graduation Reception etc. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Duties:

The Senior ISSS Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
  • Advise international students, scholars, faculty, and staff and Penn community in person, by phone, via email, or through online chat regarding federal immigration and employment regulations, Penn resources, and personal/cultural matters. Monitor ISSS general email inbox.
  • Administer F and J programs as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Process I-20s and DS-2019s for international students.
  • Act as an ISSS liaison for Penn Departments to ensure the government agency reporting requirement such as health insurance, verification component, or any relevant position update for visiting scholars, employee or faculty are done properly. Advise and provide information on regulations or policies related to nonimmigrant status (primary J-1 and other categories such as F-1, H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1 and Bs, etc).
  • Also represent the University in applications/communications with federal, state, and local agencies, including Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, PENNDOT, Social Security Administration. Provide frontline customer service support.
  • Provide administrative support for employment-based applications (H-1B, J-1, E-3, TN, PERM) cases (such as case assignment, withdrawal, verification, shipping, etc). Act as a liaison between Penn Global Coordinator and ISSS staff to handle frontline customer service, front desk.
  • Supervise shipping and various document processing needs.
  • Participates in and supports ISSS programming such as orientation, Graduation Reception etc.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Directly related work experience (3-5 years) in an international office setting for is highly preferred. Student Assistant supervising experience is a plus. Immigration knowledge and demonstrated experience working with SEVIS and immigration regulations pertaining to F-1, J-1, and basic understanding of H-1B, Permanent Residence, TN, E-3, O-1, B-1/B-2, etc. Demonstrated ability to learn and understand ever-changing complex federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to foreign nationals and effectively communicate to others Ability to work efficiently with students, faculty, university administrators, and government officials. Excellent customer service skills, emotional intelligence to handle challenge clients and customers, and interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Ability to multitask, meet urgent deadlines, and adapt to changing demands and priorities. Ability to work independently as well as contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team U.S. federal regulations require an ARO and DSO to be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
