Job Description Summary
The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center is seeking a project manager to lead a new initiative called the Behavioral Economics to Transform Trial Enrollment Representativeness (BETTER) Center. The BETTER Center seeks to address the problem of selective enrollment in randomized clinical trials (RCTs): too often RCTs fail to enroll participant samples that represent the sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status (SES), and other characteristics in the populations affected by the condition being studied. The BETTER Center will develop and test interventions to surmount the barriers to participation in randomized clinical trials faced by disenfranchised racial and ethnic groups, women, persons of low SES, and others with or at risk for cardiovascular disease. The BETTER Center is one of several American Heart Association sponsored Strategically Focused Research Network (SFRN) Centers.

The project manager will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Scott Halpern, to plan, implement, and coordinate the Center's activities and clinical trials. The project manager will coordinate with investigators at Penn, as well as research partners at Emory and MedStar Health, to ensure the successful execution of three related research studies. Specifically, the project manager will: monitor study enrollment and protocol adherence; supervise research staff; communicate with data managers and analysts regarding data processing efforts; analyze and report on study metrics (compliance, benchmarks for enrollment, and finances); contribute to manuscript writing; partner with PAIR Center Communications to disseminate the BETTER Center's work; manage engagement with the BETTER Center Advisory Boards, and coordinate meetings, educational activities, and engagement with other SFRN centers.

Duties:

Manage implementation of three studies in conjunction with multiple investigators and clinical site partners

Oversee the day-to-day operations the clinical trials, including study enrollment, adherence, regulatory compliance, timely completion of project milestones, supervision of research staff, and reporting to the sponsor

Coordinate team, stakeholder, and Advisory Board meetings, document decision-making, train research staff, students, and trainees

Manage educational activities and engagement with other SFRN centers
