Job Description

Temporary- Histotechnologist II

Processing tissue in the Mohs lab in Dermatology Surgery. As well as helping with administrative duties.

Responsibilities

- Processing tissue

- Administrative

- Perform additional duties as assigned

Duties

- Responsible for laboratory and equipment setup.

- Receives fresh tissue specimens from Mohs' surgical cases; ensures specimens are appropriately labeled.

- Maintains records and logs each case in accession book with assigned surgical number and other pertinent information (e.g., diagnosis, number of stages, number of slides, and site of excision).

- Cuts specimens when indicated by hash marks.

- Prepares tissue specimens using a color marking system

- Embeds the tissue in an embedding media to facilitate freezing of specimen on well

- Makes frozen section slides using a cryostat.

- Stains slide sections using H & E staining method.

- Cover slips and labels slides.

- Responsible for proper deposition of biohazard and hazardous waste.

- Maintains cleanliness in work environment.

- Dilutes and prepares antibody to perform immunohistochemistry (If applicable).

Qualifications

Bachelors of Science Degree required for the Dermatology Surgery Department; Sixty semester hours in an accredited college, which includes two semesters of biology, two semesters of chemistry, and one semester of mathematics. . Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology in Histology. ASCP eligible and ASCP preferred. Minimum of two to three years in a routine histology laboratory with competence in routine histological techniques/functions and the ability to perform some of the more specialized techniques/functions in the laboratory preferred.
