Job Description Summary
The University of Pennsylvania Class of 1923 Ice Skating Rink, located adjacent to the east entrance of Penn Park, has been serving the community since it first opened over 50 years ago in 1970. The 60,000 square foot facility boasts approximately 2,000 seats, locker rooms, concession stands, and event rooms that can accommodate private groups of up to 50 people. The ice surface itself is 85' x 200', totaling 16,327 square feet of frozen fun and healthy activity. The main entrance into the lower concourse is off of Lower Walnut Street. The rink may also be accessed via its entrance on Walnut Street. The Penn Ice Rink meets a wide range of needs. The rink is home to many hockey clubs for men and women, along with annual tournament play. The skating
season spans from mid-June to late April each year.

This position is a temporary part-time position. The Ice Rink is normally open 18 hours per day, 7 days per week. The position is primarily a weekend position scheduled to work during Learn to Skate program hours and additional hours for preparation that can be completed in or out of the ice rink as
directed, not more than 29 hours per week. The position works cooperatively with the Learn to Skate administrator. Must be readily available to respond to customer concerns with a focus on ensuring safety and customer experience. Must be able to answer questions in person, by telephone, and email regarding lessons. The position reports directly to the Assistant Manager and must be visible to customers and staff, under the direction of the Assistant Manager and Associate Director. The Learn to Skate Director must become familiar with point-of-sale transactions related to the learn to skate program.

Job Description

This position is primarily scheduled to work on the weekends during our Learn to Skate program. Some additional hours for preparation maybe completed in or out of the ice rink as directed. This position will be scheduled for no more than 29 hours per week. The Learn to Skate Director works cooperatively with the Learn to Skate administrator to run a successful program. The Learn to Skate Director must be readily available to respond to customer concerns with a focus on ensuring safety and customer satisfaction. Must be able to answer questions in person, by telephone, and email regarding lessons. The position reports directly to the Assistant Manager and must be visible to customers and staff, under the direction of the Assistant Manager and Associate Director. The Learn to Skate Director must become familiar with point-of-sale transactions related to the learn to skate program.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Customer service: Answer questions in person, by telephone, and email regarding learn to skate program.
  • Direct learn to skate instructors in program lesson plans to ensure consistent instruction.
  • Prepare Learn to Skate registration planning and materials for all LTS sessions
  • Manage all aspects of Learn to Skate programming on day of active programming as determined to be necessary to successfully run the LTS program
  • Find a replacement instructor or fill in when scheduled instructor is unavailable.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required to run a Learn to Skate program affiliated with Learn to Skate USA


Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Availability to work weekends is required. Must possess ability to manage instructors in a learn to skate program and manage all aspects of the learn to skate program. Previous Learn to Skate program administration preferred. US Figure Skating Association certification preferred. Registration with
Learn to Skate USA is required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse customer base and instructors. Ability to recruit new instructors as needed.

Rate is $50/hour lessons and lesson day supervision (4 hours per Sunday)
Rate is $15/hour administrative assignments
