Job Description Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will provide study coordination for patient-oriented clinical and translation research projects within the Division of Rheumatology with a particular focus on clinical trials for new therapeutics for the treatment of scleroderma and vasculitis ​

Responsible for the study coordination of investigator-initiated studies, multi-center research studies, and patient-oriented clinical and translational research projects within the Renal, Electrolyte, and Hypertension Division. Works directly with study physicians, research nurses, and other research staff at Penn and at other sites. Recruits and performs study visits, enters data, resolves queries. Obtain, process, and ship specimens. Help advance the research mission of the Division and University. Show vigilance in patient safety, protocol compliance, and data quality. Adhere to all University of Pennsylvania, IRB, and FDA guidelines. May require working off site and flexible hours. Candidate will be responsible for patient chart review; lab processing, EKG and other duties such as ambulatory blood pressure monitor and pulse wave velocity; perform basic laboratory assay techniques; manage inquiries related to the research studies including billing; maintain daily log books of research activity; follow strict study protocol and correspond regularly with the IRB.

Job Description

Duties:

1) Responsible for the coordination of Investigator initiated studies as well as Phase I - IV clinical trials. Create, coordinate, organize and maintain all documentation required by sponsor, CRO (source documentation, case report forms, study and regulatory binders, and patient binders), NIH or any funding sponsor.

2) Able to screen weekly list of EPIC reports for potential eligible participants for various studies. Make recruitment calls and visits.

3) Keeping research logs and track of frozen specimens and ordering dry ice for shipping, Keeping track of study supplies

4) Schedule and perform patient visits and any necessary testing. Some studies may be off site. Able to collect medical information such medical history, medication usage, & socio-demographic information. Able to administer health related quality of life questionnaires either in the research clinic or over the phone and any other study procedures as required by the protocols

5) Work with research sponsors, CROs, outside sites, and/or regulatory agencies on study initiation, monitoring, closeout visits, and any audits.

6) Attend periodic investigator meetings that may require travel out of town. Maintain & operate various procedural equipment such as EKG machines, Sphygmocor, sphygmomanometers, Centrifuges & other equipment as protocols require.

7) Resolve data queries with sponsor and CROs. Enter data into electronic databases, perform chart extractions. Send reports and results to primary physicians. Address, respond and log the Adverse events or serious adverse events in a timely manner as required by the IRB and sponsor

8) Process and ship blood, urine, serum, and other specimens for trials. Perform research testing, phlebotomy, ECG, vitals, pulse wave analysis, & ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Obtain records or other material required to complete case report forms and comply with protocols.

9) Perform additional duties as assigned and also train and assign tasks to other research staff as needed

Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of related experience in research and clinical study methodologies or equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Preferred experience and skills include effective problem solving abilities, effective communication and writing skills, the ability to multi-task, a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Also preferred is a knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.
