Movement Sciences – Sport Science and Psychology

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time lecturer for an academic (9- month) position in the Movement Sciences program (Kinesiology, Sports Science and Performance Programming, and Clinical Exercise Science). This lecturer needs to be a dynamic instructor possessing the ability to teach a varied course load each semester ranging from introductory and applied movement courses to evidence based practice. In addition, this faculty member should be capable of teaching specialized courses in the sport psychology area, as well as the other range of courses is desired. This is a non-tenure track teaching position, with no research responsibilities or requirements. Faculty duties include teaching (80%, equivalent to 12 credits per semester typically four courses), with the possibility that some courses may be online (synchronous or asynchronous), and service (20%) to the college or program. Applicants must present strong evidence of teaching experience in higher education (1+ years, full-time or equivalent part-time), and substantial evidence of effective teaching in a variety of courses in the relevant areas. Preference given to those candidates with experience in course or curriculum design for undergraduate programs. Well-qualified candidates should also have work experience in athletics or sports performance area. This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable annually. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the college and university.

This position will work with faculty across the college to address our Grand Challenges, complex and difficult health problems which require transformative collaboration, translational research and innovation. Through teaching, academic programs, service and research, the college is focused on these Grand Challenges: Addressing the systems of health care and the health needs of populations, and optimizing health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities.

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD degree in field appropriate to the duties, such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or other related disciplines
  • One (1) or more years of full-time or part-time (minimum 18 credit hours of instruction or equivalent) college teaching experience.
  • Classroom experience with first and second year students
  • Ability to demonstrate/instruct foundational resistance training and flexibility movements

Desired Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in an in-person, asynchronous online, and synchronous online format
  • Teaching experience in large, diverse classroom settings
  • Documented service to the program, university, community or profession
  • Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA CSCS preferred) or the American College of Sports Medicine
  • Experience in implementing instructional methods, student initiatives, faculty initiatives, scholarships, administrative practices, or other actions with the goal of reducing systemic discrimination and disadvantages facing students of minority backgrounds.
  • Previous work experience in sports or tactical performance coaching or training
  • Experience modifying or creating curriculum
  • Specific background in teaching courses related to sport psychology
